Tangerine Sunsets

by Dave Mudford © 2024

tangerine sunsets, still holding heartaches
breathtaking landscapes greeting sorrow,
raindrops falling away from dusty plains
scarlet sunrises, escapes my tomorrow.

blue cascading waterfalls, drowning hope
pastures of vibrant green passing by,
nature's melody overwhelmed by noise
flowers of different hues, fade and die.

smoky green olive grove frames the scene
dark shadows highlights the starry night,
agony confronted by love's first claim
sweating scarlet blood, defines His fight.

forty silver coins weigh heavy on my heart
rustic dreams fading as they spit on Him,
grey misty clouds of doubt, come crushing in
tangerine sunsets, appear to be quite dim.

bruised blue by the clenched fist of man's pride
bone-colored thorns making a crown so cruel,
timber cut rough forms a dreaded resting place
as mercy greets shame, in a final duel.

shadow of death screams a hollow shout
nailed with flesh and pain to a priceless tree,
smeared white cloth of the tomb discarded
scarlet stain erased, now I'm living free!

grief, pain and heartache still hangs around
but I meet them with a hope transformed,
knowing His presence through seasons, stays
providing strength and a loved reformed.

tangerine sunsets, now holding promise
breathtaking grace greeting my sorrow,
raindrops falling creating refreshment
Easter sunrise, defines my tomorrow.
