Trying to understand the world's Golden Rule
reading great thoughts at online "school,"
God's Word in Matthew 7:12 outlines this jewel;
but in Philippians 2, I found a great stepstool.
Verses three and four have special merit
They're pure gold, twenty-four carat.
Paul the apostle writes from God's Spirit,
followers of Christ, rejoice and hear it.
"Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit
but with humility of mind regard others
as more important than yourselves;
do not merely look out for your own personal interests,
but also for the interests of others."
Long before Confucius wrote his creed,
God was at work, planting His seed -
Christ would come to earth without greed
nor pride. God knew grace was what we'd need.
We should imitate Jesus' obedience and humility,
Paul relates every Christian's responsibility:
to make God's joy and peace a possibility
to light this dark world by practicing charity.
