I've walked my steps in darkness,
This blindness I was in.
My heart was shut off from light,
Just darkness deep within.
This world seems so very strange.
That life should be at all.
There's no purpose to my life.
Until I heard God's call.
In time alone, we shall die.
What works are worth my time?
Born from dust and back I go,
My steps, never in rhyme.
I turned away, not looking back.
But brilliance shown passed me!
I turned again to see Him there.
Great God who sets me free!
His light so bright, darkness fled,
New birth my spirit knew.
Astonished, His love so great,
He gave His life in lieu.
Now my steps are always light,
My blindness is now healed.
Sweet joy with Him, I'm living,
To Him, I wish to yield.
John 1:5
His life is the light that shines through the darkness—and the darkness can never extinguish it.
