The Guide or the Repairman

by Raydene Nash

Stretched out ahead of you are avenues,
Long past horizons distant stretch these two.
Along the way experience will test
The most prepared, their quest to be the best.
Divided mostly by a boulevard,
The woods and rocks make changing lanes so hard.
When these two avenues run parallel
Change happens when it's clear and you can tell.
Along the way your gears may grind and spark,
Resisting good terrain when you embark.
Just take a breath and do not ride the clutch,
Along these avenues you will see much.
Before you start, there's something you should know,
These avenues to different places go.

Drive, when you choose, the avenue that's right,
The road has bumps, but death is not your plight.
Upon that avenue, you trust the Guide,
Though others your decision may deride.
You've help when fuel or batteries are low
Because the One who paid the cost you know.
When others on the way are down and out
Along the roadside they may gripe and pout.
They may mistake the purpose of the Guide,
Or feel they should get farther due to pride.
Remind them best you can of His intent,
For them to be without is not what's meant.
The more they turn and ask for guidance true,
The more are drawn to drive this avenue.

Drive, when you choose, the avenue that's wrong,
But you will not be singing Heaven's song.
When charged unfairly for repairs or fuel,
You'll find you're falling short of driving rules.
You'll have no means with which to give a hand
To those who're short of what the rules demand.
Those miserable ones will cheer you on,
But really, all you'll have will be your brawn.
You'll glance across to Heaven's Avenue,
And seek that parallel to cross onto.
Thinking, too, that way you would like to drive,
The Guide will save your soul from hell alive.
Or sadly, you'll drive on in misery,
By the repairman ripped off totally.
