Psalm 107

by Bettina Van Vaerenbergh

Oh, give thanks to the Lord our God;
Let's praise the Lord, for He is good!
His mercy will endure for ever and ever -
Oh, if men only understood!

Let the redeemed of the Lord praise Him,
Whom He saved out of the enemy's hand.
From the four winds God gathered them;
From every nation, from every land.

They wandered long in the wilderness -
Hungry and thirsty, by night and by day.
They cried, and the Lord delivered them;
He led them forth in the righteous way.

How wonderful are the works of the Lord;
Yes, the Lord God, He is good!
Oh, if the children of men would praise Him;
Oh, if men only understood!

- -

The Lord satisfies the longing soul;
He fills the hungry soul with goodness;
All those who dwell in the shadow of death,
And all those who dwell in darkness.

Because they rebelled against His words,
And despised the counsel of the Most High,
God made their hearts heavy with labor;
Then they fell down, and He heard their cry.

The Lord broke their chains in pieces;
He saved them out of their great distress;
Out of the land of the shadow of death -
Out of the deepest darkness.

How wonderful are the works of the Lord;
Yes, the Lord God, He is good!
Oh, if the children of men would praise Him;
Oh, if men only understood!

- -

Fools, because of their many transgressions;
Because of their iniquity -
Are drawing near to the gates of death,
Where they find all kinds of abject misery.

Then, when they cry out to the Lord,
Very soon their cries are heard.
They are healed, and delivered from evil;
Because He sent to them His Word.

The Lord is merciful, gracious and kind;
Yes, the Lord God, He is good!
Oh, if the children of men would praise Him;
Oh, if men only understood!

God's works, oh how wonderful they are;
They show His love, and His tender care.
Oh, let us rejoice in the Lord our God,
And all of His mighty deeds now declare!

- -

The Lord calms the terrible storm;
So that the waves are once again still.
He makes rivers of water in the desert -
It springs up and flows freely; at His will.

The Lord saves the poor and the needy;
He'll surely be gracious when they cry.
He pours out manifold blessings upon them;
Far from affliction He sets them on high.

The righteous will rejoice in God's works;
And wicked men will keep silent…
The wise will meditate on these things -
They'll understand God's lovingkindness.

Oh, give thanks to the Lord our God;
All you saints who have understood!
Praise the Lord, whose mercy lasts forever;
Let us praise the Lord, for He is good!
