God in His brokenness turned away

by Royston © 2024

"Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani,"
from the lips of Jesus came that awful cry.
The sun had darkened and refused to shine
hiding the shame of the Son of God Divine.

God the Father in His brokenness turned away
and could not look upon His Son that day.
For Jesus was alone with no one standing at His side,
as the sin of this world, Father and Son divide.

"My God, my God, why have You forsaken Me?"
was the cry of Jesus from Calvary's tree.
Our wrath and punishment He chose to bear
for it was love, not nails that held Him there.
