"Christmas Wish"

by Donald Xander © 2021

If I were given a Christmas Wish,
What would I wish for?
Would I consider the moment,
Or wish forever more?

If I were given a Christmas Wish,
Would I settle just for me?
Or would I make a wish for,
All humanity?

Would I think of the children,
And the elderly?
Would I think of what we leave them,
Simply put , our legacy?

If I were given a Christmas Wish,
For what young couples need.
To have a home, and still afford,
To raise a family.

To put food on the table,
For sustenance, they need.
To not be overcome with costs,
In order to succeed.

If I were given a Christmas Wish,
I 'd wish for understanding.
That we could all just get along,
And not be so demanding.

We'd come together, once again,
As one, and not withstanding.
As hatred, strife, and pestilence,
Are objects of disbanding.

If I were given a "Christmas Wish"
A gift of care and love.
I would simply wish for,
All of the above!
