There is a place the spirit rests
A calm respite from fears
A sacred place and fortress strong
Which readily appears
The place of peace I've come to know
Is not where you might think
Perhaps in church while poised on pew
Or 'neath the kitchen sink!
By chance upon the open lake
While casting forth my lure
While gazing on my child's face
So innocent and pure
This source of rest you may suppose
Is in no earthly place
Where might one go to come across
So sweet a sacred space
This peace resides within a heart
That's come to terms with God
Where Christ becomes the substitute
For where your feet have trod
The rest divine may be enjoyed
At any time or way
Rehearsed or informality
Received both night and day
What blessed joy this place provides
For casting off your care
A precious gift from God himself
Within the place of prayer
