A Road Once Traveled

by Renita Thomas

I traveled the roads of stone and hills
and I fell along the way.
Then one day I turned a corner,
an unforgettable day.
No more stones though still rough,
but the falls didn't hurt the same.
All because of just one man,
that has the sweetest name.
He picked me up, he held me tight,
convinced me I'm not alone,
Said "not to look back at that old road,
the hills, the dirt, the stone.
There is now a new horizon,
of promises filled with love.
I will supply you with your needs,
and blessings from above."
The name of this man is Jesus,
he heard me when I cried,
he held me close, whispered in my ear,
"my child, this is the reason I died."
