An Interview with God

by Kristine Stanton © 2021

I had a lovely interview
with my sovereign God.
I answered many questions,
with each He gave a nod.

It started when my Father asked,
"do you trust in Me?"
And from my heart I answered Him,
"I do, most certainly."

The Lord then asked about my faith
and if I knew His Son.
"The One who rescues and redeems?
O, yes, I know the One."

A smile then spread across His face
as He looked toward me.
God knew before I answered Him
that I spoke truthfully.

With every question that He asked
the Lord saw through my eyes . . .
the open windows to my soul
revealed if I'd told lies.

The good Lord knew my deepest thought,
'twas nothing I could hide.
I was an "open book," to Him,
it could not be denied.

He looked at me and then He said,
"Come, tell Me who I am."
"You are my God, the Lord Most High,
who sent His precious Lamb.

You are the One who is most wise,
surpassing everything.
There's nothing that compares to You,
my sweet, beloved King.

You are the Lord who gives to me
His mercy, peace, and grace.
You have forgiven everyone,
all of the human race.

You are so faithful, loving, kind,
and give unselfishly.
You are my God who was and is,
and ever shall You be."

The Lord had one more question,
to end the interview.
He gently took my hand and asked,
"do you know I love you?"

I looked at Him with heart-felt joy,
so moved by what I'd heard.
My heart and soul began to soar,
awestruck by His grave words.

Beyond all measure I was touched
by love, my God endowed.
I softly whispered to the Lord—
with words I humbly vowed . . .

"I do acknowledge You, dear God,
and love You have for me.
I'm ever grateful for that love
You give so graciously."

'Twas then my Savior, Jesus Christ,
had joined the Lord and me.
We sat and talked for many hours
in peace and harmony.
