GUILT AND SHAME

by Laurel Ramsey

Is there a difference between guilt and shame?
Or are they essentially just the same?
No, guilt is the feeling when we've committed a sin,
Shame is thinking that we're bad from within.

God can forgive a sin, and take away our guilt,
He can forget, and make our lives rebuilt!
Shame, however, can make us feel flawed,
Thankfully, nothing is too big for our God!

It's said that guilt is the wound, shame the scar,
Guilt can be short-lived, but shame can leave a mar.
For guilt or shame, we need to go to God in prayer,
Knowing that our God will always be there!

Guilt can help us acknowledge our sins,
Knowing that our Savior always wins.
So, pouring our heart out to the Lord,
We know that is where our treasure is stored.

Guilt can be considered a good thing,
Since forgiveness and repentance, it can bring.
Shame is more difficult to ignore,
It may be something we learn to deplore.

But God is there to listen to our heart,
Always ready to offer a new start.
He wants us to be made whole once more,
That's what our loving God is there for!
