'That I might know Him' this familiar phrase
Strikes such a chord within the human heart
The Spirit's scene, that captivates our gaze
On seeing Him, His beauty to impart.
His resurrection power now will be
For us, the only ground on which we stand
Where we, in knowing Him, are safe and free
Seated in Him, within His heavenly Land.
His fellowship of suffering would belong
To those who follow His rejected way
And while the world sings a synthetic song
His fellowship will only Grace display.
And to His death conformed, the statement will
Cause some to disregard or brush aside
For we prefer a happy note to fill
Our days on earth which pander to our pride.
Conformed to Jesus, and in knowing Him
We too have died and in His life now rise
His death has proved that worldly light is dim
For only He has riveted our eyes!
