Not Left or Right

by Paul Purday

Straight is the path that leads to God
Veers neither left or right
Apart perhaps for politics
But must show God in sight.

Rough is the path, but straight must be
Unerring is its aim
Eyes that are fixed on Jesus' face
And own no other Name.

Rightly dividing Word of Truth
Treading that path is clear
Not straying onto ways unknown
As nice as they appear.

For there are those upon the road
Who follow on the way
Both sheep and goats together mix
Equality convey.

No deviation can be seen
For to the human eye
All is acceptable and true
Under a human sky.

Though some cut a straightforward road
Doctrinally are pure
But only to indulge the mind
The flesh's subtle lure.

Those minds will look from left to right
With others as they run
Unknowing that they may not hear
The Master's cry 'Well done!'

Sadly, as goats they would be known
And 'Life' would not pursue
Then God's indictment they would hear
'Yourself I never knew'

The mind must be renewed to know
His overwhelming love
The heart will lead to Him alone
The pathway of the Dove.
