Bearing Your Cross

Not everyone will understand
why we should bear a cross.
It's counter to the way most think,
since comfort would be lost.

But why would anybody see
it any other way?
We all seek pleasure that will give
us comfort for each day.

Yet there are some who choose to see
a cross differently.
A loving heart will view it as
an opportunity.

To truly follow Jesus Christ,
we have been clearly told.
Deny ourselves, take up our cross,
and watch new life unfold.

To suffer for somebody else
and help them in their need,
gives meaning to the daily lives
of those who will concede.

To suffer our own malady,
and tolerate our pain,
we trust that God is with us so
our cross is not in vain.

Not every cross will mean the same
to each and every soul.
But those who choose to bear their cross
will know God as their goal.
