No Strings Attached: Stage Show

Cruel were the gods,

Pressing them down under the soil, and into the holes.

But many escaped and flew on the wind,

Until they found their companions, and learned to speak again,

And some found this valley,

And some climbed down, to escape the anger of the gods,

But when the gods saw how the people had learned to speak,

And when they saw how the people had become peaceful again,

They gathered together to watch,

And they said "These shall not escape!

They have the tongues of animals,

But they have the hearts of men!"

And they built a field of thorns and planted it along the sides of the valley.

They watch us when the sun rises,

They listen to us, to hear the sound of animal tongues,

They wait for us to reach out, so they can pull us back,

And they make, our world

Into theirs by their shadow arts.

And we are never strong enough.

Our strength flies away.

The gods wait, and watch,

And we are never able to leave their eye,

So they watch us and listen, and wait."

When Inigwa was finished, Yaoul wondered what she had said to him. He tried to put the song into his own words.

"Is this why no-one has ever left the valley?" he said at last, "Because the gods say we are not strong
