Wording of this Handout:

The vulture is called a 'scavenger' because it usually does not go hunting for its meals - it waits for them to come along.

Vultures have no feathers round their heads because they often stick their heads into some rather messy places. God has designed them this way to prevent them from covering their heads with dirty, smelly feathers.

When a vulture is angry or excited its face changes colour! It goes red. You'd think it was blushing. . . but, like turkeys, it shows its feelings in the skin of its face. (Some people do this too) .

One of the biggest birds in the world is a vulture. It is called the Californian condor. Some people say it is also the ugliest bird in the world too.

If you ever see the Jungle Book cartoon movie you will see four vultures who talk to each other and sound suspiciously like the Beatles. Real vultures, of course, cannot speak, and they are hardly what you'd call song birds!

God designed vultures. He gave them sharp claws for gripping their food, and strong beaks for ripping meat. They also have very good eye-sight, for seeing their prey far away.

Vultures are expert flyers. Some can stay aloft for hours with hardly a flap of their wings.

God designed every part of the vulture.
