Many pelicans follow the sun as the seasons change. The Dalmatian pelican leaves Yugoslavia every winter and flies all the way to sunny Egypt until winter is over, then it flies back for a warm time in Yugoslavia. Smart bird!
Pelican mothers feed their babies by catching fish which are just the right size, and then they fly to their nest and open wide. The baby pelican picks the fish from right inside the mother pelican's beak.
The pelican might look awkward and clumsy, but it is designed that way. Every part of the pelican is useful - it can fly, dive, catch fish, feed its young, lay eggs, build a nest, and preen its feathers in the sun. What an amazing bird.
