Wording of this Handout:
Once there was a poor little boy who had no shoes. He was only 10 years old, and he lived in New York.
One day, while he was standing barefoot outside a shop, and looking in the window at all the lovely things, a kind lady asked him "Excuse me, but why are you looking in the window like that?" "I was just asking God to give me a pair of shoes" said the boy.
The lady smiled. "Come with me" she said, taking the boy into the shop.
She asked the assistant to fetch six pairs of socks and a basin of water and a towel.
The lady pulled her gloves off and washed the little boy's feet. Then she dried them with the towel.
The lady then bought a pair of shoes for the boy, and put them on, over his new socks. She gave the other five pairs of socks to him and patted him on the head.
"There you are" she said , "Your feet will feel better now." The little boy looked at her in surprise.
"Are you God's wife?" he asked.
Well, was she God's wife? Of course not. God has no wife. But whenever Christians do something for others, it is just like God is doing those things. People are God's hands and feet, to show His love to the world.
