Wording of this Handout:
You come from a family, right? You probably have (or have had) a grandfather and grandmother, uncles, aunts, nephews, and nieces.
Your family come from at least two other families, right? Each person in those two families is related to someone else. They all have grandfathers and grandmothers, aunts and uncles, nephews and nieces?
If you go back and back in time, you find that everyone in these other families also has family connections.
Keep going and you find that everyone in the world has connections with everyone else.
But if you keep going back you find that there are fewer and fewer people to choose from. The world's population is smaller the further back you go.
Now if you go back even further you come to just one family : Noah and his wife and three sons with their wives. That's eight people.
These eight people came from people born before the Great Flood. The Great Flood killed all the people in the world except these eight people.
If we start just before the Great Flood, when there were lots of people on earth, we have lots of connections again.
Now go back further and the population of the world drops. Back and back, and finally you come to just two people, a man and a woman.
They were called Adam and Eve. And that's where everyone in the world comes from - so we must be just one huge family!
