Tangled Yarns: Hidden Talents

"What were you thinking about when I came along?" asked the Fairy. "Nothing much," I said, "Just the usual stuff about being rich. I don't get enough pocket-money, so I'm always wishing I could have more."

"Wishing?" said me Fairy, "Did you say wishing?"

"Yes, I did," I said. (I have an excellent memory)

"Don't you see?" said the Fairy, That's just the right word to use when I'm around. It's exactly the right word!. It's the very, very best word you could have come up with, because I'm a Fairy, and I can grant wishes!"

"That's awfully lucky of me, isn't it?" I said, "What do you think I should wish for?"

"How about an increase in your pocket-money?" suggested the Fairy.

"I don't want a few measly dollars," I said, "I want thousands of dollars. I want money to swim in, like Scrooge McDuck. I want to be able to burn money, and throw it out windows, and wallpaper my bedroom with it!"

"That sort of wish is a little more difficult to grant," said the Fairy, "But there are ways and means. First, let me work out a plan."

He sat on the end of the bed and scratched his head.

"I think you're going to have to do something to help this sort of wish happen," he said.

"Like what?" I asked.

"Like carry some sticks of dynamite and put them where I tell you," said the Fairy.

"OK," I said, "I think its only fair that I should help a bit."

"Right," said the Fairy, "Get ready for one of those magic bursts of light..."

In a flash I was gone from my bedroom and standing in a big room somewhere else.

"This is the city bank," said the Fairy, "And over here (flash flash) are your sticks of dynamite. Do you have a box of matches on you?"

"No," I said, "There aren't any pockets in my pajamas."

(Flash) Now I had pockets. (Flash) Now I had a box of matches.
