While visiting the temple in Jerusalem, Jesus became separated from his parents. At this time Jesus was 12 and so his disappearance cause a concern with his parents. They found him in the temple asking the teachers questions and listening to their answers. This image is a suggestion of how the teachers might of reacted to an upstart Jesus asking them questions that I imagine were difficult to answer. You can read about this in Luke 2:40-52.
