The Lost Sheep (Luke 15 v 4 - 7)

by Paul Purday

The clouds were dark, thunder boomed, grim with rage
Lightning splashing its scythe across the sky
Jagged knife lighting the wilderness stage
Winding path of a hundred sheep passed by
Their Shepherd guiding.

How well He led them to a better place
Secure they were, without a need to stray
But one sheep would not heed this safe embrace
And wandered off to find another way
It's own way finding.

The Shepherd searches for the sheep He lost
Until He find it. Pathway through the storm
Was His to take, for He would count the cost
And hold it fast, so He could keep it warm
His heart rejoicing.

A nation and a world has lost its way
The blood of innocents is on its hands
An ancient Godly past it would betray
And takes an evil path of sinking sands
Our hearts are crying.

But He will seek, and minister His heart
Waiting, loving, longing until the sound
Of the midnight cry, and urgency imparts
As the Spirit strives until the lost be found
Eternal loving
