Walking on Water

If we would walk on water, a miracle would be
As in the raging tempest, the churning of the sea
The crying of the sea-birds, the lashing of the spray
For we would be like Peter, but we forgot to pray.

If we would walk on water, we have a new idea
We visualise a millpond sea and sky that's bright and clear
A clarity that calms the pulse and shows a better way
A confidence to guide our steps and we don't need to pray.

If we would walk on water, we might get in a boat
Step out, but hold the side so we can keep afloat
A way of proudly showing, a newer route to find
A levelheaded reason, the pathway of the blind.

If we would walk on water, we sadly hold our head
And look for other reasons, to find our path instead
Perhaps we blame the water, it was a different kind
We fall into depression, the pathway of the blind.

If we would walk on water, by faith we must behold
The One who walked on water, with nothing else to hold
We've tried the many methods and found no proper way
Until we found that first of all, it was our need to pray.

We see Him walk towards us, the meek and lowly man
Upon the churning waters, across the ocean span
Through faith we walk towards Him, but see the rolling sea
And cry for Him, He holds us, by His authority.

If we would walk on water, it must be only Him
Our eyes on Him are fixed, and we've no need to swim
His ready arm to hold us less we would sink away
Then we can walk on water and not forget to pray.
