His Eyes

by Paul Purday

The eyes of Jesus travel to and fro
Across all reaches of the world and He
Is roving, searching, moving actively
Always with hope His righteousness will know
Of something He would see
The lintels with His blood shed long ago.

While myriads show His righteousness of old
According to the Law and hearts would fill
With love for Him while trudging up His hill
Despised and never fitting the world's mould
His eyes will seek them still
They are secure within His loving hold.

Eyes of compassion seek our lowly way
Eyes that see more, and sadly fill with tears
The ways of man, his evil and his fears
Combine to form a world of dark display
And lost in its affairs
But blood on many lintels hold the day.

'I sees the blood and will pass over you'
It was for us that He would come to die
For us He loves, the apples of His eye
Those piercing eyes, so old but ever new
Would ask the reason why
We stray so often from a Godly view.

For we must look directly in His eyes
Nothing to cause our glance to turn away
Where we can see our night-time turned to day
And to His side, and cause, we will arise
His call to us obey
And claim the wonder of His heavenly prize.
