Traveling

by Kathleen Higham

Before I ever knew Him
He placed images in my mind
Great distances I traveled
Astonishing beauty did I find

Never could I imagine
What a blessing in disguise
With cascading water falls and rivers
I began to realize

My world was just a little town
But God gave me this friend
And a path once so predictable
Became a path without an end

And every time she took me
To a world outside my town
She put a longing in my heart
And the world became my crown

So every year we traveled
To places far from home
And education came to me
And never would I have known

That in all of our excitement
And exotic things we did
Was a tiny place in my heart of hearts
Where an emptiness stayed and hid

With every place and every sight
My emptiness grew and grew
And years went by so many years
Until I finally knew

That it was He who created me
He filled that empty space
And nothing in the world abound
Could ever take His place

So every day I travel
In my heart my mind my soul
And heaven is my destiny
I know at last I'm whole
