Shattered

by Kathleen Higham

There are times when pain will come
And your heart is completely shattered
You are reaching out to emptiness
Praying asking God if you ever mattered

And when these trials overwhelm us
Tears fall down in a flooding rain
It's hard to remember our Jesus
When His body was racked with pain

But if only you would surrender
Cry out for His mercy His Word
Close your eyes and open your heart
With compassion His voice will be heard

For He has given many promises
Knowing how our hearts would grieve
And He waits and weeps for our sorrow
Beckoning come to Me and cleave

This world is filled with the shattered
But as Christians we must believe
The peace and glory of Jesus Christ
Is waiting on the day that we leave

And I am waiting in joyful hope
For the day when my Lord comes for me
No longer brokenhearted nor shattered
In His arms I will finally be free
