That Special Place

by Kathleen Higham

Time flies by so quickly
As a father holds his child
And memories of yesterday
Come to this man so mild

I remember your first birthday
And the cake upon your face
The laughter that surrounded me
It was such a special place

And I can still see that child
Even though I live with you
Sometimes in your gentle way
You show me what to do

Now many years have passed us
And the cake is on my face
Am I really in my eighties
Still here in this special place

Our roles have been reversed
But I am still the Dad
And you have given me much joy
I am with you and I'm glad

But someday God will take me
And I hope you celebrate
Singing songs of love and peace
Knowing God and I had this date

Yes I remember you my child
And birthday cake on my face
And we will be together forever
With God in that special place

For that special place is Heaven
And it is no mystery to me
So I thank God for the moment
When His face we'll finally see
