Words

Words can hurt us deeply
Can dwell inside our head
Thoughts of love betray us
Take away our joy instead

This is not an unusual place
We walk in the devil's book
For he has written prolifically
He wants us to come and look

He has had tremendous success
With a word he calls depression
It will steal your life and keep you
He loves to hear your confession

For this word is about defeat
Surrounding yourself in despair
Your life feels completely empty
You quite simply do not care

Then grief comes to turn the page
The devil will wallow there
Along with pain and loneliness
These words he will gladly share

For his wickedness and treachery
Written in his book from hell
Words that spewed from his mouth
Then he sang them as we fell

It is true God has allowed it
This evilness has some power
But we must never read it
Not even in our darkest hour

For every word the devil speaks
Our Lord will turn around
And God will speak of only love
From the devil not a sound

So remember as you turn the page
The Bible is a perfect retreat
Armored with His Words of strength
Then the devil will run in defeat

And not one word belongs to him
Our Lord has penned this Book
A gentle hearted Author speaks
Saying come and take a look
