Love Your Enemies

by Kathleen Higham

We all have been hurt before
Unbelievable as it may seem
Those who sit and worship God
Are sometimes painfully mean

It was hard to understand this
When I first felt the Lord within
How could those that love God
Be hurtful isn't that a sin

Many years have passed since then
And I wonder if I've hurt someone
The answer is yes I know it
It's God the Father and the Son

Oh how I wish it were not so
Hurting all those that I love
Praying to change my foolish way
For I answer to Him above

The religious type is not of God
It's the sinner type like me
And if you love Him completely
He'll open your eyes to see

That even though we are Christians
We fail each other time and again
But when we come to worship Him
Together we will all pray Amen

So pray for those who hurt us
And love them at any cost
Then God will do a work in you
If you bring to Him the lost

Religious type or sinner type
Or even a Christian like me
Love the ones that hurt you
Only then will your heart be free
