A Frog That Prays

by Kathleen Higham

I am a funny looking green
And my friends call me Jade
I'm a praying Christian frog
And I come from Miami-Dade

I did not say praying Mantis
But I did say praying frog
I love to talk about the Lord
As I sit on my special log

Now I have traveled pretty far
To places I should not be
But I believe God took me there
So I could learn from Him and see

He took me to the ocean
So far out into the sea
I thought I might die there
But it wasn't meant to be

Seeing things no frog could see
Held in the palm of His Hand
A perilous journey it surely was
I didn't know where I might land

Often leaping before I think
Then trouble comes my way
Without my Lord and Savior
I wouldn't make it through the day

What to do when confusion comes
I might change to another shade
Or try to hide as I leap away
But God says don't do it Jade

Sit quietly and listen for Him
Remembering that you must pray
And if life seems to test you
God will teach you what to say

For I've been lost so many times
Hopping from stranger to stranger
Many times making wrong choices
That placed me in serious danger

But every time I pray to God
He points me in the right direction
I feel myself at home with Him
Under His Wing is my protection

Even though I hop too far
And fail to do His Will
A ray of light comes to me
As I stick to a window sill

Feeling the sun upon my face
There I cling to what I know
That God is with me always
No matter how far away I go
