A Boy Named Kenton

by Kathleen Higham

I met him at a baseball field
And Kenton was his name
We talked about each player
He had a love for the game

Waiting for a practice ball
He watched the players intently
I told him of my Christian friend
Then he informed me so gently

Most of the Astros love the Lord
I've heard some of them speak
His words were strong and precise
This young boy was not meek

He told me of his love for God
And I was truly mesmerized
I am thinking he is just a kid
But why am I so surprised

The Lord has blessed me often
Today it was this young man
Professional players everywhere
But God had another plan

Never knowing who God will send
But I crossed his path today
Forever engraved in my heart
The words I heard him say

Expressions of love for Jesus Christ
Brought joy beyond my imagination
Knowing I'd write about this child
As he spoke with no hesitation

For we must be as little children
And Kenton was an absolute dear
His message was a perfect gift
In him Your Voice was clear

Lessons come in many ways
And God will send them all
A young man waits so patiently
At last he gloves that ball

Then his father shares a moment
About his son and a precious day
When this Godly child so unselfishly
Gave all those baseballs away
