Jesus and Me

by David Causby

Life should be kept simple
No complications or restraints
No morality or absolutes
No need for those called "saints"
I'm happy with my own life
Controlling my destiny
I don't want another's influence
Not Jesus - just me

But truth divided asunder
My soul and flesh and bone
It laid me bare and naked
Before God all alone
My wilfulness was foolish
My soul needed to be free
In faith I gave up everything
Now Jesus - in me

I'm a child of Jehovah now
I'm purchased by Christ's blood
I'm justified by resurrection power
I'm washed in Calvary's flood
Yet sometimes I still do my will
And I often fail to see
That surrender must be total
It's Jesus - and me

But one day all will change
I shall see Him face to face
And then I shall be like Him
When I've finished all the race
In Heaven my knee will bow
I with that throng shall be
Then nothing else will matter
Only Jesus - not me
