How Can We Not Pray

by Kathleen Higham

How can we not pray
Just knowing God is there
Grateful for each moment
That we can breathe a prayer

How can we not pray
When there is fear and despair
Especially when we are falling
And darkness is everywhere

How can we not pray
For the struggle to endure
Knowing that the answer comes
God listens, I am sure

How can we not pray
As a tiny baby is born
Or when we lose a loved one
Brokenhearted we will mourn

How can we not pray
When another day has arrived
But some no longer with us
And yet we have survived

How can we not pray
When the sun warms our face
Or the stars light our path
In our heart,the secret place

How can we not pray
For the moment we can't know
When God will draw us to Him
And joyfully we will go

How can we not pray
Having seen so many die
Yet, sometimes we do not pray
Lord, I wonder, wonder why
