Pain

by Kathleen Higham

Don't know why pain comes
Or, if and when it will leave
But, pain has no answers either
So we pray, and then believe

Pain is just a descriptive word
And I am reticent to say
What it means, and who it hurts
Lord, just make it go away

We will suffer a little while
It seems like time stands still
A body broken cries to You
When the pain has had its fill

Don't know why pain comes
For it recognizes no friend
Some take pain and bear it
As they wait for life to end

Pain is just a descriptive word
There is no doubt it is real
But Jesus felt its magnitude
Something we will never feel

We will suffer a little while
Lord, hear my heartfelt sigh
Can't even imagine Your burden
How many hours for You to die

Don't know why pain comes
But, I know what God will do
The memory will be wiped away
When Jesus comes for you
