The Rock

by Kathleen Higham

Oh, the beauty of my life
As I wander by this lake
The flowers, a divine array
Inhaling them each, I partake

Oh, the beauty of my life
A gentle breeze kisses my face
The warmth of the sun touches me
Embraced by this lovely place

Oh, the beauty of my life
In a moment, it was gone
The devastation so complete
In shock, I face the dawn

The lake was once so lovely
Has turned an ugly grey
The flowers in their splendor
All have been blown away

Falling down in deep despair
In the lake, what lies there
A rock, a very solid rock
But Lord, I hardly care

Oh, the beauty of my life
In time the flowers come
The colors, the sun, the scent
Some days not enough for some

Oh, the beauty of my life
The Rock, I've come to know
Resting in that peaceful lake
It's where my soul can go

Oh, the beauty of my life
When Jesus brings His peace
The Rock heals my broken heart
Then the pain, the pain will cease.
