Intimacy

by Kathleen Higham

When God touches me
I always know it is He
An infant lying on my chest
The sweetest eyes look to me.

The laughter of a little one
An elderly person cries
A mother falling on her knees
These things God dignifies.

The utter trust of friendship
No matter what I do
Cannot ever fail my friend
My sins she always knew.

When God touches me
My burdens slip away
His endless love encompassing
Brings me through another day.

Staring in wonder at the sky
Another sunset will prevail
Golden rays come through me
Then to my God, I hail.

Walking in the warmth of night
My devout lover by my side
Millions of stars greet me
The universe, the vastness, undenied.

When God touches me
Seeing creatures of every kind
Each completely different, yet
So perfectly, tenderly designed.

Giving me a gift, unspeakable
Woven intricately in my womb
Incredulous of this complexity
Intellectually not what, but whom.

Pondering His imagination
My eyes will not conceive
The where, the what, why, how.
But, in Him I do believe.

When God touches me
I am mystically complete
When God touches me
With deep intimacy, we meet.
