All

by Kathleen Higham

Reading Your Word prayerfully
It is surely to You I call
Lord, have I pleased You?
Given to You my all?

No, no I have not!
Each morning tears, I sin
Clutching my Bible to my heart
Loathing this evilness within.

Not understanding my weakness
Praying the same endless prayer
Lord, have I given my all?
Is the question I asked fair?

For I am just flesh and bones
Yet, from Your Spiritual Being
But, if I could give my all
Your face I shall be seeing.

I sometimes fear the day's end
Once more I'm down, I fall
The question imprisons my mind
Lord, have I given my all?

Then a friend who touches my soul
So frantically, to her I call
Begging the question of her
Could I, could I give my all?

Oh, the wisdom of this woman
"Jesus Christ is the only one
The only one to give it all."
And He did it saying, It is done."

No longer does this question
Separate me from my goal
The friend I cherish banished it
The one who touches my soul.
