The Perfect Seven

by Kathleen Higham

The number seven is Scriptural
In God's Word it means complete
I came to recognize its meaning
When precious children, I would meet.

I can say with a certain clarity
These children captured my heart
They came lovingly and sweetly
I didn't know where to start.

A beautiful mother held an infant
Then skillfully supervised each one
Her eyes spoke to them perfectly
As she discreetly nursed her son.

The father, a very handsome man
His intelligence was quite revealing
But more importantly, a guiding hand
Sensing how proud he was feeling.

He spoke their names eloquently
Their individual character he defined
I am absolutely not a poet, he said
But his words were wise and kind.

This family so intrigued me
The number seven was complete
I hugged these children to me
As they gathered at my feet.

I felt like I always knew them
Listening to their bedtime prayer
The most intimate moment came to me
For I sensed God's presence there.

Lord, thank you for this evening
I can close my eyes and see
They are incredibly beautiful
What a gift You have given to me.

It is my joy to write about them
Their names have filled my head
Oh, let us be as little children
That is surely what Jesus had said.

I "Trust" You for Your "Mercy"
A "Freeman" in a "Blessing" made
"Forgiven" with Your "Promise"
When finally, the "Ransom Paid."
