The Good Shepherd

by Deborah Bell © 2015

While walking alone in the darkness of night
I saw beaming down a beautiful light
It lighted the pathway so I could see
It felt like someone was beckoning me

It led me to pastures so fertile and green
The most welcoming sight I had ever seen
Sheepherders sitting so solemn and still
With sheep that were grazing all over the hill

Then there I saw Him…from whence this light came
He looked straight at me…then uttered my name
A powerful force drew me to His side
I knelt at His feet…and in solace I cried

He lovingly placed His hand on my head
Said child…don’t fear…but trust Me instead
I drew you from darkness…from pain and from fear
To answer the prayers you sent Me to hear

A peace unlike any that I’ve ever known
Told me that I was no longer alone
His warmth and compassion pulled me from the cold
And now I am part of this Good Shepherd’s fold

Loved and protected…totally free
This life was so perfectly planned out for me
No more to be struggling along in the night
Everything changed…when I saw the light…

(Matthew 18:3, "Assuredly, I say to you, that unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the Kingdom of Heaven.")

And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I
must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one
fold, and one shepherd.
John 10:16
