I Cried

by Kathleen Higham

God sent to me a gift
One who is calm and wise
Soothing when trouble comes
Such kind intelligent eyes.

God sent to me a gift
When I had no place to go
An emptiness shadowed me
Questioning what I know.

God sent to me a gift
A friend, a brother, more
A loved one snatched away
He chose to close life's door.

God sent to me a gift
He caught me unaware
Then to my husband also
A brother for us to share.

God sent to me a gift
He is always, always there
Tending to a burdened heart
Amazing he would care.

God sent to me a gift
And I stress him a bit
Yet, patiently he teaches me
Will not let me quit.

God sent to me a gift
So perfect is His plan
As fear comes to grip me
I call upon this man.

God sent to me a gift
Even though a brother died
He brought to me another
I felt it, then I cried.
