What If I Hear His Voice

by Kathleen Higham

Today we are so saddened
A young woman passed away
She was absolutely lovely
Unfathomable, she left this day.

I believe she hears His voice
Can't imagine what He'll say
But it is what we long for
To hear that voice someday.

Each day I awake and wonder
Especially when young people die
That I should open my eyes again
But the young one gone, why?

How many times have we cried?
So desperate to hear His voice
Yet still we linger at the edge
Then fail to make that choice.

There can be no real peace
When broken hearts embrace fear
Until the surrendering of our soul
Then the quiet voice we'll hear.

What if I hear His voice today?
Not knowing that it is He
That would be so utterly tragic
The voice, the voice of all eternity.

God, I ask You for wisdom
To hear Your voice, then see
Always, always, You are near
And You desire to speak to me.

What if I hear His voice today?
Dear Lord I pray to find
The sound will be my journey home
When I leave this world behind.
