Grief

by Kathleen Higham

No one ever leaves this world
Without feeling grief's wrath
There are no words to express
Why some travel this hurtful path.

Yet each of us will experience
A loss that cuts so deep
There's an overwhelmimg helplessness
When awakened from our sleep.

There can be no understanding
But God feels our despair
Relentlessly He walks with us
Every moment, He is there.

There are times when succumbing
Would bring some relief
But, wherein lies the answer?
To surviving this endless grief.

Only time will heal a heart
That breaks with every tear
Then grief will slowly leave you
And God will draw you near.

Still, the pain may be distant
Remembering with a nagging fear
About the one who left us
The voice we no longer hear.

Begging for just one dream
As you sorrow into the night
Yet, the very cross that burdens
Will carry you through the fight.

No one ever leaves this world
It seems we all must grieve
No one ever leaves this world, but
In His promise, I do believe.
