Unchanged

by Kathleen Higham

There's something about turning fifty
I went there ten years ago
A little wisdom I have gained
As my youth flew out the window.

There's something about turning fifty
And awful as it seemed to be
When my eyes finally saw you
That smile came delightfully to me.

There's something about turning fifty
For a time life falls apart
Oh, it can hit you pretty hard
Sometimes even break your heart.

There's something about turning fifty
It's not really about the years
Disappointment may come to claim you
Then stun you with your fears.

There's something about turning fifty
Horrible, it was horrible, she said
I felt her sorrow for a moment
Imagining the tears that were shed.

There's something about turning fifty
So, these words to you I'll say
Even though fifty certainly hurt you
My friend, it's just another day.

There's something about turning fifty
Not a thing could you have done
And the future lies before you
One that belongs to fifty-one.

There's something about turning fifty
But, a passion remains in you
Nothing changed, everything changed
For God had carried you through.

There's something about turning fifty
Where anxiety can hide in a mind
Praying for it to go away
Then at last I have come to find.

There's something about turning fifty
A most remarkable woman rearranged
But, her gentle hearted nature remains
So sweetly and completely unchanged.

Philippians 4:5
"Let your gentleness be known to all men"
