Mama's Fading Memories

by Patricia Joan Polhans

If only I could hug mama just one more time
Press my body against hers and hers against mine.
If only I could hear her tender voice again
I'd run into her arms as she held out her hands.

Though oft' I see a vision of her lovely face
I cannot remember her sweet embrace.
If only I could see those loving arms outstretched,
Feel those soft, gentle hands upon which I'd wept.

Oh, how happy and secure I would forever be
If mama could sing just one song for me.
Oh, to feel the security as I gazed in her eyes
While she poured in my heart her sweet lullabies.

But her sounds, her touches are fading away
As I view the face of her holding me that day.
If only I could experience her one last time
It would be enough to hold till the end of time.
