Far, far in the vale below
I see there struggles some poor soul,
But onward I must go,
Ever Higher!
Up, up the steeps I climb
With God's hand in mine,
Each moment a step in time,
Ever Higher!
Through the lofty crags
I jig and jag,
Never must I lag,
Only, Ever Higher!
Now on the lofty peak I stand
There to view the outspread land,
And contemplate the fate of man,
Never Higher?
The troubles I thought I left behind,
The old enemies of mine,
Are here with me on the steep incline,
Never Higher?
Then, upon the peak a breeze
Finds me falling to my knees
Just like the autumn leaves,
Never Higher?
And upon the breeze a sweet refrain
As One calls out my name,
Wanting to know if I am lame,
"Go Higher!"
Once again I rise
There to view the lofty skies,
Seizing again the heavenly prize,
Ever Higher!
Though the battle continues on
With strength renewed I press on;
My heart ringing with the song,
Ever Higher!
Far, far on the steeps below
There struggles some poor soul,
But onward, onward I must go,
Crying out, Ever Higher!
