A Hundred Fingers

by Kathleen Higham

Her beauty comes to greet me
My eyes recognize that smile
Memories of a burdened past
She will walk with me awhile.

Marveling at a sculptured face
For age has touched her not
Then words flow so gracefully
Once more, wisdom I've sought.

She reveals to me a sorrow
Of a Mother who is ill
And a family pulls together
They will care for her until.

I imagine this amazing woman
As a hundred fingers caress
Ten children caring for a Mom
For her there can be no less.

Stunned by this personal encounter
Where one soul touches another
I pray for a peaceful passing
Understanding the love of a Mother.

I am mesmerized by their numbers
Hearts committed, every last one
Twenty hands, a hundred fingers
Until her life on earth is done.

A love story of their faithfulness
A Mother will be sadly missed
Twenty hands, a hundred fingers
Each one she lovingly kissed.
