The Wedding Poem

by Patricia Joan Polhans

As you blend your lives together
by the move of the Master's hand
Each day you will grow closer,
deeper and deeper in love again.

You'll learn to work together,
share your hopes and your dreams,
Learn forgiveness and contentment
as you build by living streams.

You'll, then, begin to experience
life's hardships and its joys
So put away those childish things
that taunt little girls and boys.

You'll grow into a young woman
and a strong compassionate man.
As you walk down life's pathway
You'll begin to understand.

You'll work through every problem
As you live your lives for the King
Learning about sweet blessings
As well as facing tragedies.

And when disputes may come
And you know they always will
Learn how to reach a compromise
Don't have a stubborn will.

So settle matters quickly
Before your enemy can attack
So that the both of you
Will never have any lack.

Learn how to speak out blessings
And throw the bitterness out
And don't ever let the sun go down
While wrath is in your mouth.

Be ever so swift to listen
And even slower to speak
For you'll always want to have
A marriage that is complete.

So as you face these challenges
As they come to you in life
Learn to work together
As a husband and a wife

Then you'll want to guard this gift
Better yet, it is yours to keep.
For love endures all things
and hope's the best that life will bring.

While you're working together
treat each with mutual respect
For in the end you'll realize
That love will be all that's left.
