Cherished Memories

by Patricia Joan Polhans

Life is like a beautiful, young, fragrant flower
That births its blooms today but is gone tomorrow.
When its life is over all that's left is the pain
And teardrops that fall like a cold, bitter rain.

But each time you come shedding a sorrowful tear
May each one represent a mem'ry held so dear
Precious, sweet memories of your dear sister Anne;
Of walking through your lives with her hand in hand.

As you cherish the mem'ries of her precious face
Hold them close to your bosom, don't let them erase!
I know that right now your heart grieves and is breaking
And the death of your sister has been quite a shaking.

But, as the time passes, so will death's bitter sting.
So, hold fast to the mem'ries that her love can bring.
Clutch each precious memory so deep in your heart
And make a vow to never, e'er let them depart.

For none can fill those mem'ries like a sister can,
The precious times shared together upon this land;
All the birthdays you have shared, all the secrets told,
The laughters and the heartaches as your lives grew old.

All these mem'ries you'll hold so deep in your heart
Where they'll be cherished forever and never depart!
But, now, she has gone on to a much better place
To bring cherished mem'ries to her Father's sweet face.
