How Many

by Kathleen Higham

How many lovers will you try on?
For a man is like vintage clothes
Enjoying their touch for a while
Then onto the rack he goes.

How many lovers will you try on?
Some may dazzle with their style
But what of his spiritual being?
Is he just a man to beguile?

How many lovers will you try on?
Searching for the perfect one
What is in his heart my friend?
When all is said and done.

How many lovers will you try on?
Looking for the substance of his soul
Can this one really complete you?
At last can he make you whole?

How many lovers will you try on?
Maybe this time you might pray
God surely wants to bring him
I know it will happen some day.

How many lovers will you try on?
Sometimes feeling you should quit
But God is waiting for you to ask
For the suit that's the perfect fit.

How many lovers will you try on?
As you gingerly step into his car
Wondering again is he for me?
If you prayed God is not far.

How many lovers will you try on?
Glancing at the book on his seat
A leather book worn and torn
Then a man for you to meet.

How many lovers will you try on?
He clings to you like a glove
The man with a Bible on his seat
This one comes from God above.

How many lovers will you try on?
Your final fitting at last
Hand in hand with a Godly man
Released from a lonely past.
