Unexpected Gift

A finch came a calling
Upon a sunny day
Flitting to my window
He seemed to want to stay.

He made the hours pass
His entertaining game
Glorious was his song
How sweet he did proclaim

He sat upon my pane
So merry was his tune
Then he flew away
Late in the afternoon

A God send was his singing
Giving my soul a lift
What more could I ask
This unexpected gift
